What to Expect

We'd love to see you at one of our meetings. If you haven't visited us before you may like to know what to expect on a usual Sunday at Elim Christian Centre.

What time do I arrive?
We have two Sunday morning services one at 9:00am and one at 11:00am.   We try and keep both services the same in every respect (except for our youth work which only runs in the 11am gathering) so the only decision you will have to make is what time you would  prefer to attend. The children and young people stay in the service for the worship time before leaving us for n:couragers and 4:12.

Where do I park?
There is a small car park available behind the church premises which can hold about 10 cars. There is also free parking in the multi storey car park at Vicarage Fields Shopping Centre, which is a 5 minute walk. We would ask that you do not park behind the shops next to the church as you can be clamped!

If I have a disability, what support is available?
We have good access for people who need to use a wheelchair and a disabled toilet is available at the back of the church.  An induction loop is fitted so if you use a hearing aid please select the 'T' setting.

What will happen when I arrive?
When you arrive you will be greeted by a person from the Welcome Team and you are free to sit anywhere in the church. You will probably be greeted by a number of friendly people but don't worry, you will not be put under any pressure to "join" the church.  If you feel that you want to make Elim Christian Centre your home church then please feel free to talk to one of the leadership.

What about the service?
The morning and evening services usually last about 1 hour 30 minutes.  Typically we will start with singing a mixture of traditional hymns and contemporary songs accompanied by a band comprised of keyboard, guitar, drums and bass.  Don't worry if you don't know the songs because the words will be projected on a large screen to allow everyone to join in.  Information and news items will be presented.  A collection will be taken from regular attenders, please don't feel obliged to contribute.  On the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month we serve communion, if you are a Christian then you are welcome to partake.  We place a strong emphasis on relevant Bible based teaching and our sermons are up to 40 minutes long.  Sometimes there is the practice of the spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12.

What's available for children?
During the morning service children between the ages of 3 to 11 leave us for our Sunday School, which is called 'n:couragers' and young people aged 11 to 16 go out to '4:12'.  There are also two  parental supervision crèches for toddlers up to the age of 3 with the facility to hear and see the service.  On the first Sunday of each month the children stay in for our Family Service.  We understand younger children find it hard to sit still so please don't worry if they get restless!

What shall I wear?
We have no dress code - come in whatever you feel comfortable wearing!
