What to Expect

We'd love to see you at one of our meetings. If you haven't visited us before you may like to know what to expect on a usual Sunday at Barking Elim.

What time do I arrive?
Our Sunday gathering starts at 10am.  Children go directly to their own gathering at 10am while young people leave for their 4:12 sessions at 10:30am. If you have any questions at all, please do ask a steward and they would love to help you!
Where do I park?
There is a small car park available behind the church premises which can hold about 10 cars. There is also parking in the multi storey car park at Vicarage Fields Shopping Centre, which is a 5 minute walk (if you bring your parking ticket to us we can validate it and you will be able to park for up to 3 hours for £1. We would ask that you do not park behind the shops next to the church as you can be clamped!
If I have a disability, what support is available?
We have good access for people who need to use a wheelchair and a disabled toilet is available at the back of the church.  An induction loop is fitted so if you use a hearing aid please select the 'T' setting.
What will happen when I arrive?
When you arrive you will be greeted by a person from the Welcome Team and you are free to sit anywhere in the church. You will probably be greeted by a number of friendly people but don't worry, you will not be put under any pressure to "join" the church.  If you feel that you want to make Elim Christian Centre your home church then please feel free to talk to one of the leadership.
What about the service?
The morning and evening services usually last about 1 hour 30 minutes.  Typically we will start with singing a mixture of traditional hymns and contemporary songs accompanied by a band comprised of keyboard, guitar, drums and bass.  Don't worry if you don't know the songs because the words will be projected on a large screen to allow everyone to join in.  Information and news items will be presented.  A collection will be taken from regular attenders, please don't feel obliged to contribute.  We take communion together regularly, if you are a Christian then you are welcome to partake.  We place a strong emphasis on relevant Bible based teaching and our sermons are up to 40 minutes long.  Sometimes there is the practice of the spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12.
What's available for children?
During the morning service children between the ages of 3 to 11 leave us for our Sunday School, which is called 'n:couragers' and young people aged 11 to 16 go out to '4:12'.  There is also a parental supervision crèches for toddlers up to the age of 3 with the facility to hear and see the service.
Our A.V. equipped crèche.

What shall I wear?
We have no dress code - come in whatever you feel comfortable wearing!
